Indonesian Singer Kris Dayanti - Menghitung Hari

OK, for some reasons I've been feeling a bit emo since last Saturday night's karaoke session with the girls.

I love poetries, people who love poetries, music, making music (ya - I'm not going to say I play the tambourine, triangle or castanets. Yes - I  REALLY DO bang the piano, bang harder the drums and know a strum or two on the guitar), I love to sing and I love languages in general.

So it's only no surprise I love singing (attempt to) and listening to songs in different languages - Malay, Mandarin, Hokkien (OK thats a dialect), Cantonese (that's another dialect), Hindi, French, Spanish and Italian.

I feel that every single language has very different ways of expressing feelings or describing things - and when translated in another language, it loses its beauty..... lost in translation, so they say.

Of late, this song in Malay has been on my mind. It's titled "Menghitung Hari" and it's sung/performed by Indonesian singer Kris Dayanti.
(I've provided the English translation for those who don't understand the Malay language).

Menghitung hari detik demi detik (counting the days, moment by moment)

Masa ku nanti asa kan ada (the time I'm waiting for will be there)

Jalan cerita kisah yang panjang (a storyline, a long tale)

Menghitung hari (counting the days)

Padamkan saja kobar asmaramu (just put out your flames of passion/desire)

Jika putih itu tak kan ada (if there is no truth)

Yang aku minta tulus hatimu (what I ask is your sincerity)

Bukan puitis (not pretense)

Pergi saja cintamu pergi (just let go your love, away)

Bilang saja pada semua (just tell everyone)

Biar semua tahu adanya (let everyone know of its existence)

Diriku kini sendiri (now I'm all left alone)

- Kris Dayanti

Seriously, the English translation do absolutely no justice to the original meaning of the lyrics in Malay.

Not only am I blown away by the lyrics.... but, also by the melody itself.
Here, listen to it.

The Roof, Stratosphere @ First Avenue Bandar Utama

I was invited to the pre-launch of The Roof, Stratosphere at First Avenue Bandar Utama. As the name suggests, The Roof is located at the rooftop of office building First Avenue. For starters, I've had a hard time explaining to my colleagues the exact location of First Avenue - with all of them thinking it's One World Hotel -_-

First Avenue houses offices such as Schlumberge, Paypal and Ebay just to start of with. On its right is the famous One Utama Shopping Centre and on its left, IBM and KPMG towers. Just to clear the air...

Air... The Roof is an open air/helipad bar located at the SKY level (or in other words, the highest level) of First Avenue. I'll let the pictures do a bit of talking...

Upon arriving at level SKY, that's not it! You've got to take a little old-fashioned kinda elevator up to the HELIPAD by pressing and holding down the HELIPAD BUTTON as pictured above. (the elevator being an alternative to a long flight of stairs - trust me on this, girls, you WILL want to take the elevator in heels!)

Oohh.. and most importantly, if you are planning on taking the elevator in a dress or skirt, make sure you sit at the retractable seat provided in the elevator or you try your level best to cover up your panties - like if it's a long dress, chuck all the material between your legs LOL because your sweet pink colored lacey panties can be seen by horny men (er... or women!) below who take the stairs.

I also kinda got stuck in the elevator and because it was my first time taking this, I did freak out a bit!

Once you've reached the Helipad, you'll realize that the little hassle you took coming up here is all well worth it!

The scenic view of Bandar Utama, The Curve and nearby PJ areas can be seen crystal clear from The Roof. Oh not forgetting the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers too. I sure know the best spot to watch fireworks in KL now - yes, without having to get stuck in the jam all the way to KL on New Years Eve!

That's the awesome yours truly with an awesome view as the background.

Yours truly yet again camwhoring on that windy night high up at The Roof.

Yep, that's the Jessicat and I!

And when the hour struck 9 PM, they lighted up the skies with beautiful pyrotechnics that lasted a good minute or so!

At SKY level, the owners of The Roof @ Stratosphere thought it's a great idea to have a Sports Bar concept so at the SKY Level, one will find ALL in ONE HOUSE.

I do not have further information on the other bar concepts at SKY Level because the rest of it are still undergoing renovation.

Now, the purpose of The Roof inviting media and bloggers to the pre launch of The Roof Stratosphere (other than marketing purposes or social media awareness) is of course, getting honest feedback.

Here are my thoughts:

1) Although it may be the perfect place for partners who wish to cheat on one another, it is a bit too dark at The Roof and may make socializing or mingling around a tad bit diffcult. Oh, and it doesnt make for great pictures too!

2) Because the entire area is covered in real grass, it isn't heels friendly for women. Neither is it sexy to go there in flats, yeah, so something should be done about this.

3)  Please make the elevator panties-peeping proof! And do maintain and fix the elevator or have someone in there permanently ferrying people please!

4) There NEEDS to be a toilet at The Roof and not having to use the flight of stairs or take the elevator down for a pee or a shit.

5) If it rains.... how?

The Roof, Stratosphere opens to the public on 1st November 2013 onwards.

Agent Provocateur Autumn Winter 2013 Launch

Lingerie line Agent Provocateur which originated in the UK has washed up Malaysian shores a couple of months ago, for those of you who didn't know! The only outlet in Malaysia can be found in Suria KLCC, Ground floor (situated directly opposite Ralph Lauren).

I was invited to Agent Provocateur's private event today to witness the unveiling (or in their case, revealing, haha!) of their Autumn/Winter 2013 lingerie collection.

So let's start with....... the little dessert's bar.

Tastefully decorated with raspberry chocolate tarts and some other sweet goodies, soft pink roses and glass bottles of Evian water.

In little glass boxes covered with a black lace, you'll find a pink macaroon seated comfortably on top of a vanilla cupcake with vanilla and chocolate icing. I know, just how sinful can it get, right? More to come!

And as if the goodies on the table aren't enough, there's the icing on the cake - a portrait of a slender waist woman clothed in seductive lingerie that's - uhm, barely there!

One of a kind bikinis and monokinis on display.

More pictures of the outlet's interior....

The entire outlet was sophisticatedly decorated in a tempting, delicious and seductive manner with dimmed lights, extremely sexy lingerie and accesories for the wild sex kitten and dark velvety furnitures... like the black velvet sofa....

The black velvet sofa I happily plunked my ass on....

And.... camwhore on, too.....

Of course, I wouldn't be me had I left the shop empty handed.
Needless to say, I got myself a little something....

The Agent Provocateur Petale Noir spray I've had my eyes on for 2 months but couldn't get my hands on because it was out of stock for quite a while.

It's a floraly-sweet scent with a touch of a little ohm and topped with notes of a little cute and sexiness with a slight hint of sophistication.

Guests were each handed out a gift bag which contained a RM50 gift voucher and the stuff below:

 a CD with a video of Agent Provocateur's Autumn/Winter 2013 fashion show.

Yes, I should be controlling myself.
Something I find really hard to do in every single aspect of my life.
Instant gratification, all the freaking time.

A catalog every man wishes to have on his coffee table.

As if all the above mentioned are not satisfying enough (visuals, tastebuds LOL), they saved the best for last.

Out came the models...
Yes, in lingerie!

I am extremely tempted to grab a piece of sexy from Agent Provocateur.
I definitely will be heading back to the outlet soon for a private lingerie fitting session.

Definitely, no pictures on that though!
Sorry boys =)

Going, going, gone!!

Hehehe... Today, I welcome a new member of the gadget family in to my room. The F4500 SAMSUNG LED 32" SMART TV.

Slightly more than a month ago, I sold off everything i had which was Apple/Mac because i had enough of the 'incompatibility'. Well technically, ALL that i have of Apple products except the iPad mini because it was given to me by someone before he left for the states.

With Samsung (or any other brand besides Apple/Mac), I no longer have to deal with incompatibility issues or have to double confirm if the external hard disk is compatible with Mac. Nada, none of that nonsense anymore.

I currently am writing this post with awesome Blogger layout from my Samsung Galaxy S4 and I'm using a Acer S7 as my laptop.

No i dont have any issues with Apple/Mac users other than the fact that I find a lot of them in denial. I think Apple is a great product for kids and senior citizens because of its super friendly user interface but not the best product for a working woman like me who blogs on the go and uses Microsoft Office heavily (opening and editing such documents on the mobile phone).

What i do miss about Apple/Mac is the interface and the beautiful exterior design. Other than that, its really a good riddance.

Here's wishing that one day Apple/Mac will 'open' up.

Moist Butter Cake

It's a Saturday afternoon and for once, I find myself with not much to do and no where to go. Half the usual gang of girls are off to a beach vacation and the rest are either clubbing or out swinging at expensive eateries.
I'm stuck at home with mommy and little Natasha and oh, Teddy.

Anyway, straight to the point. I'll be taking my first cooking class from mum to day - she'll be teaching me to fry noodles (aka Chow Mein) and I'll be attempting the below recipe for moist butter cake -- with just a very few minor changes to suit my taste.

Mrs NgSK's Super Moist Butter Cake

230g Salted Butter, Softened (Cool at 18-20C, not glossy)
200g Eggs, No shell (4 Medium Eggs)
 50g + 150g Sugar
200g Self Raising Flour, Sifted.
 60ml Milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven at 150C. Prepare a 8 inch square pan. Line the base and grease the sides
(greasing helps the cake’s sides to rise well)

2. Separate the eggs, and place the whites into a medium sized bowl.
Beat egg whites until soft peaks, gradually add 50gm sugar and beat until stiff. Set aside.

3. Cream butter and 150gm sugar until pale and fluffy.
Put in vanilla paste and and beat for a while.

Put in egg yolks one by one and beat well after each addition.

4. Put in half the flour and mix on low speed until incorporated.
Put in milk in 2 additions and mix until well incorporated.
Mix in balance of flour.

5. Put half the egg whites in and mix on low speed.
Pour the balance of egg whites in and FOLD.

6. Pour batter into pan and level.

7. Bake for 50 - 60 minutes or until skewer comes out clean.
(After baking, I left the cake in the tin to cool hoping that it will be moister.)

The changes I'll make:

1)  I will be using probably 50g less sugar to make the cake less sweet.

2) I'll put a tray filled with water into the oven together with the cake mixture so that the cake texture will not come out too dry. A tip shared with me by my sister -in-law.

3) Because my lovely cousin overheated my egg mixer and didn't even offer to buy me one, I'll have to do beat the entire cake mixture with hands.

Good Lord.

Stay tuned for updates of picture on the moist butter cake created by yours truly. Here's hoping it will turn out very well.

I kinda over baked this cake because the top part of the cake didn't turn brown.
And i should have laid it out on a smaller baking tray/double up the ingredients.
Other than that, I've followed through the above mentioned recipe precisely.

The best part of baking a cake is that you're able to control the sugar content to your liking.
The butter cake wasn't overly sweet and it's perfect!! Very butterish and the texture of the cake is awesome..

Now on to the first dish I've made...

Fried Noodles aka mummy's style!
So I've learnt that you'll  need to fry the ingredients first before dumping in the noodles at the last point. LOL.
Frying is one of the easiest form of meal preparation.
Now on to learning Fried Meehoon and Fried Rice.

Definitely hope to share more about my disasters (or not!) in the kitchen.
